• Increased security with fully manageable hard drive encryption, and Intel® Anti-Theft technology used with Computrace®, protecting valuable data in case of loss or theft
• Improved multitasking with smart technology that adjusts processor speed to support workload changes, providing power when needed and working more efficiently when possible

“Enterprises have embraced the J-Series line of Motion Tablet PCs based on their flexibility, performance, mobility and durability,” said Mike Stinson, Vice President of Marketing, Motion Computing. “With the J3500, we extend the enterprise benefits with a tablet PC solution that is powerful, durable, multi-functional and mobile, enabling mobile workers to significantly improve productivity and collaboration through real-time access to enterprise data in the field.”

Enterprise-Ready, Durable Tablet PCs

OXFORDSHIRE, 13th May, 2010 - Box Technologies, a leading technology and service provider, is pleased to announce it will fully update payment terminals at House of Fraser stores. Box Technologies will customise, install and service accredited payment terminals in all House of Fraser stores nationwide.

House of Fraser’s customer payment terminals needed updating to maintain PCI DSS Accreditation. The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS) is a mandatory compliance standard for all payment service providers. The PCI DSS standard is endorsed by American Express, Discover Financial Services, JCB, MasterCard Worldwide, and Visa International.

The PCI DSS standard enforces high levels of security in all areas where cardholder data is transmitted or stored. Robust protections such as formalised policies and procedures, intrusion prevention and response, encryption and security aware development methodologies all contribute to a secure choice for customer payment processing requirements.

“Box Technologies is committed to quality and always puts the customer first in all that we do”, said Stuart Walker, Managing Director, Box Technologies. We have an accredited quality system that is continuously monitored and updated to ensure all services and products offer the highest standards of quality and reliability. House of Fraser needed a new PCI DSS-accredited payment system and we were able to deliver a fully customised solution that integrated seamlessly with their existing technology. “Keeping this equipment in top operating condition helps House of Fraser to deliver the payment services on which their customers depend.”

Box Technologies installed a bespoke payment area at House of Fraser stores, comprising a VeriFone Secura Payment Terminal and bespoke SpacePole chip and pin mount. The Secura payment terminal is a highly secure, easy to use PIN pad that features both magstripe and EMV smart card readers. The PIN pad has a backlit graphical display for easy viewing, large tactile keys that are also backlit, and an illuminated smart card entry slot. The Secura has a privacy shield for added security, is tamper-responsive, and its moulded rubber grips keep it securely in hand.

“We are always looking at ways to improve our customer’s shopping experience, and opted for a new PCI DSS-accredited payment system”, said Chris Randall, IT Manager, House of Fraser Stores. “Box Technologies was an ideal candidate for us, as they understood our needs ― from planning, setting and implementing. This new technology will give our customers a bespoke, more secure payment system that integrates perfectly in our stores with minimal disruption.”

OXFORDSHIRE, 6th May, 2010 - Box Technologies, a leading technology and service provider, announced today that it has signed an exclusive distribution agreement with Toshiba TEC. Under the agreement, Box Technologies will manage deployment of the Toshiba WILLPOS B10 Point-of Sale (POS) terminal in the UK, in addition to the exclusive service and repair of the product.

Ideal for supermarkets, fashion outlets and entertainment companies, specialty footwear stores, pet stores, sports goods shops, pharmacies, hair dressers as well as discount and convenience stores, the WILLPOS B10 has an ultra-small footprint designed to be set either in horizontal or vertical position. The WILLPOS B10 is also a perfect match for hospitality outlets.

The WILLPOS B10 is packed with a complete set of retail-hardened features that make it easy to use, powerful, compatible and secure. Designed for maximum return on the shop floor, the WILLPOS B10 is pre-configured to operate in harsh retail environments and provides LAN connectivity to both legacy infrastructure and the newest POS peripherals. The WILLPOS B10 offers an attractive dual-screen option as well as multiple powered interfaces whilst delivering low power consumption.

Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) calculations estimate that only 20 percent of the lifecycle cost is spent on hardware and software – the remaining expenditures allocated to usage, maintenance and admin costs. Smart retailers today look at POS products that are able to lower the TCO during the entire product lifecycle – hereby ensuring the best possible return on investment. POS systems designed by Toshiba TEC require very little maintenance and are built for long-haul 24/7 operations.

“Toshiba TEC has led the retail industry for many years with the continual release of innovative technology”, said Stuart Walker, Managing Director, Box Technologies. “This new generation of POS system is set to fundamentally transform the way information is managed as a strategic asset within a business. Toshiba TEC is one of the only companies that continues to manufacture all of the components in its products and, as a result, is able to provide the assurance of longevity in its build quality. Along with our unique approach to total system care, from equipment specification to service maintenance, Box Technologies is the perfect partner to maximise the benefits of a business and a healthy POS solution.”

TELFORD, 15th April, 2010 - Plustek Technology Inc., a provider of surveillance and imaging solutions, is delighted to announce that it will be showcasing a new security device at IFSEC 2010 (Birmingham NEC, 10-13th May). Plustek will be sharing a stand with EtherWAN, a leader in Ethernet connectivity for IP surveillance.

Plustek’s NVR Slim240 is one of the world’s slimmest and lightest video surveillance devices (152 x 125 x 45 mm / 785 g), yet it contains all the features you’d expect to find on a regular-size NVR (network video recorder). The compact design offers low power consumption (max 8-10W) and easy installation, and the aluminium alloy design allows it to operate without a fan – reducing noise and minimising maintenance.

Similar to other Plustek network surveillance recorders, the NVR Slim240 is designed with an open-platform concept to allow integration of linear systems. The NVR Slim240 is also future-proofed towards the growing areas within surveillance technology thanks to H.264 high-definition recording. Other popular video formats supported include Motion-JPEG and MPEG-4.

The NVR Slim240 is designed to work primarily with network (IP) cameras but can also manage traditional analogue cameras via a local network or over the Internet. The NVR Slim240’s bundled software application enables simultaneous recording and remote access to live views and auto camera detection, making it a comprehensive security solution for monitoring premises, detecting shoplifters, reducing false alarms and increasing personal safety.

Plustek will also demonstrate its latest range of mobile network video recorders, specifically designed for mobile surveillance in all types of public and commercial vehicles including taxis, vans, buses, trains, limousines and heavy goods vehicles. Engineered to withstand the heavy vibrations generated by vehicles and temperature fluctuation, the NVR 4200V is built for dependability, long life and low maintenance.

Edward Hill, Business Development Manager, Plustek, said: “We’re really excited to be launching our new product at IFSEC 2010. The NVR Slim240 is a practical device that packs a wealth of real-world functionality into a compact box. With the NVR Slim240 we’ve really focussed on design and ease of use. The show will also allow us to demonstrate our latest range of products designed for mobile surveillance”.

NOTE TO EDITORS: Review samples of the NVR Slim240 will be available towards the end of May.

LONDON, 14th April, 2010 ― Even as the overall economy starts to show signs of strengthening, non-profits (also known as not-for-profit organisations) are still stretched thin Рexplaining why they continue to search for tools that can increase efficiency, improve communication with volunteers and donors, and strengthen collaboration.

The Internet makes it easier for organisations of all sizes to communicate and share documents more effectively. But outdated collaboration processes are wasting non-profits’ time and money.

Document management systems have helped non-profits improve internal efficiency, but extending these systems to volunteers and donors has proved much more difficult. Internet connectivity now provides the non-profit worker with incredible reach, but productivity is still constrained by the high cost of office productivity tools.

And, that’s where Glasscubes Рa suite of easy-to-use online productivity tools Рcan help. For example:

Create a secure workspace where you can disseminate information to key volunteers — and ask them for feedback. In addition to sharing FAQs, news and announcements and requests for volunteer support, use Glasscubes’ ‚Äòpoll‚Äô feature to ask for their input and feedback. Give this valuable group a voice… and incorporate their feedback and experiences to make your organisation that much stronger.

Board members are busy, so non-profits ought to look for opportunities to decrease the number of meetings. Sometimes, decisions and discussions can be had without meetings. Avoid forgetting to CC someone on an important e-mail by creating a workspace just for board members. Use this space to collaborate, discuss ideas, provide updates and ask for input.

Glasscubes also incorporate a ‘lite’ contact management system, helpful for improving donor relations. Share contact information internally, notate nuances and details about key donors, manage leads, and record donor issues and opportunities.

Create an online workspace to serve as the hub for event planning. This provides a central hub to discuss logistics; share event updates; collect feedback on invitations and the program; and assign and track action items. Getting more accomplished with fewer meetings!

Part of Glascubes’ commitment to helping non-profits do more with less includes a special, significantly discounted rate. Interested in learning more? Contact enquiries@glasscubes.com

COVENTRY, 12th April, 2010 - Of all the personal technology advances we’ve seen over the past five years, the Tablet PC has to rank among one of the most significant. And thanks to the marketing clout behind Apple’s iPad, the form factor is just now starting to get a lot of recognition. With business and social lifestyles becoming more demanding, many industry sectors are adapting their workforces to embrace Tablet PCs due to the increase in productivity among workers and lower administration costs compared to pen and paper.

Far and away, the best thing about Tablet PCs is their mobility. Their robust form factor and durable screens mean you can take and use them anywhere you go, the same way you would a notebook and pen. That means that when your boss bumps into you in the hallway and gives you a number of assignments, you can write them down. Or, if you’re at a jobsite you can easily connect with the office to access or share customer details, thanks to integrated wireless connections. Tablet PCs are also useful in meetings or customer interactions, because you write on them like an actual clipboard and paper, so you don’t have a screen impacting your interaction.

When you’re working out of the office you have the full power of your desktop computer with you (including the ability to run multiple applications simultaneously), either working at a client site, or doing office tasks while commuting. In addition, you have all your phone numbers and schedules without having to synchronise with another computer and just as fast as launching a PDA. You also have all your standard software and files Рeverything you need to make effective use of the Tablet PC in the enterprise environment.

The latest Tablet PC display technology takes performance measurement beyond that of nits, combining brightness, contrast and viewing angle to create great viewability outdoors. Designed specifically for mobile users that compute outdoors, a quality Tablet PC provides around 10:1 reduction in unwanted reflectance and glare, 15% improvement in light pass-through efficiency, 225% increase in sunlight contrast ratio over standard displays, and better viewability at wide viewing angles.

High quality Tablets also offer thin-sheet glass that protects the display against real-world events that can cause damage – with the strength needed for real-world mobile work environments. Designed to provide durability where high strength is required, mobile rugged Tablet PCs add protection without impacting pen response. Water, chemical and disinfectant resistant coating on some models also makes a Tablet easy to clean and remove dust, dirt, or other elements.

You don’t lose any functionality from a desktop computer either. Tablets typically operate on the same architecture and run many of the same programs as a regular desktop computer, and they have the added advantage of some special tablet-only software enhancements. In fact, many programs integrate all of their normal functions with digital ink, so you can add notes to documents and even e-mail your handwritten notes to someone Рthere’s nothing quite like seeing your own scribbles on a computer screen.

Is a Tablet PC right for you?

Tablet PCs perfectly address vertical markets, among interest groups like medical professionals (for access to electronic patient records), field service (empowering mobile professionals to work from anywhere at anytime), manufacturing (bringing a new level of automation to manufacturing and warehousing operations), and sales (for forms and order taking). But now that the momentum has built up, the real market is much larger.

As with any technology, Tablet PCs have advantages and disadvantages. Thanks to the last few years of development and enhancement, the disadvantages are shrinking in number and the perks are becoming more and more enticing. If you’re a highly mobile person and have never considered getting a Tablet PC, now is as good a time as any to start checking them out Рthe technology is cutting-edge and the usability is superb. If you’re thinking about a new laptop and data access and entry on the move is a key factor, a Tablet PC should be at the top of your shopping list.

Irvine, Calif. (April 12, 2010) Vision Solutions, today’s leading high availability and disaster recovery solutions provider in the IBM Power Systems markets (NYSE: IBM), announced Heritage Building Society Limited, Queensland, one of Australia’s most respected financial institutions, uses Vision’s EchoStream and EchoCluster for AIX to eliminate extended unplanned downtime, reduce disaster recovery system failover timeframes and meet extremely high service level agreements.

Providing maximum system availability enables Heritage to honor its ‘People First’ culture. At any given moment, more than 300,000 members rely on applications running on their database system, which supports more than one hundred branches and 24/7 services such as online and telephone banking. Member account information must be completely protected yet readily available at all times—any data interruption or loss could be disastrous.

“EchoStream ensures our platform, along with all services and functionality, are replicated to our disaster recovery site within seconds,” says Heritage’s General Manager Technology and Payment Systems, John Williams. “The solution significantly reduces any possible disaster recovery time.”

Before implementing Vision Solution’s award-winning products for AIX on its IBM production and disaster recovery servers, Heritage’s existing production host system hardware neared the end of its useful life, meaning upgrades were necessary. Heritage needed an enhanced recovery and downtime management solution.

EchoStream includes Vision Right Time CDP™, which can almost instantaneously recover applications and data to any point in time, not just the last backup point. With IBM Systems and continuous data protection Heritage can quickly reverse accidental damage or deletion, or malicious data corruption, even if the damage has already been replicated to the backup servers. Vision’s EchoCluster provides rapid, remote or local failover capabilities, delivering 24/7 error-free availability for AIX clusters. Its AutoGuard and SwitchAssistant features ensure that automatic failovers or planned switching are fast and error free.

“IBM POWER users such as Heritage are recognising the value of the EchoStream and EchoCluster solutions to their business and customers,” says Vision Solutions’ Vice President of Sales for Asia Pacific, Allan Campbell. “And as with all of our offerings, Vision ensures they can achieve impressive service levels at industry-low cost-of-ownership.”
